In the frame of her show Rabbits Do Not Know What They Are, S Hollis Mickey presents her performance piece Bleigiessen.
Bleigiessen (in German lead-pouring), known also as lead-guessing, is a technique of divination using molten metal, in which typically molten lead or tin is dropped into water. In this performance of divination, the artist reads tea leaves, burns hairs. Every gesture is portentous, a possible fortelling. All who bear witness are drawn into the act of prognostication.
Alongside the performance, the book launch of Molybdomancy (lead guessing), published by Rabbit Rabbit Press, Jimmy Riordan’s imprint. The publication is a document of S Hollis Mickey performance Bleigiessen and a simple explanation of the process of Molybdomancy.
For the occasion, S Hollis Mickey and Jimmy Riordan will both read fortunes.
